Gutshot
In poker, a 'gutshot' occurs when you are just one card away from completing a straight, but the missing card is located right in the middle of your sequence.
For instance, if you have a 5, 6, 8, and 9, you specifically need a 7 to bridge the gap and create a winning straight: 5–6–7–8–9.
You’re missing the 7 to make a straight: 5–6–7–8–9
That is the essence of a gutshot—you are banking on one very specific card to save your hand; without it, the strategy falls apart.
The probability of hitting it is admittedly low, but the payoff is worth it, as landing that card usually gives you a formidable hand.
