What is OASIS?

What does OASIS mean?
OASIS, which is short for 'Onlineabfrage Spielerstatus' (Online Query of Player Status), is a German-engineered system designed to help players maintain self-control. Its primary goal is to serve as a centralized hub for anyone struggling with gambling or those who simply feel they need a timeout. Once you trigger a self-exclusion through OASIS, it becomes effective across the board—blocking access to physical casinos, digital slots, gaming arcades, and sports betting platforms alike.
How does it work?
If you feel that gambling is becoming a problem or you just need some distance, you can register for a self-exclusion via the OASIS portal. Because this is a centralized registry, the restriction applies to every connected gambling provider simultaneously. Once you're in the system, you're locked out of all participating gaming services, regardless of the platform. It essentially acts as a hard barrier, helping you regain control and stopping problematic gambling habits before they escalate.
Why is this also important?
The shortest period you can choose for an exclusion is 3 months, and it's important to note that this status doesn't just disappear on its own. To get back into the game, you must submit a written request to the Regional Council in Darmstadt. These applications are only processed after your chosen exclusion period has fully lapsed; there is no way to cancel or lift the ban early.
There is one exception: for those using online sports betting or virtual slots, a temporary 24-hour 'cooling-off' exclusion is available. Unlike the long-term ban, this one expires automatically after one full day, during which time you are blocked from all linked gambling sites.
